This variant of the 911 arrives at just the right moment. After the presentation of the supercharged Carrera, followers of the German marque needed some reassurance. Yes, Porsche can still develop a naturally aspirated 911 whose main objective is not to reduce fuel consumption! The 911 R is based on the GT3 RS variant. It adopts the 4.0-litre, 500 hp flat-6. The big difference: the gearbox is a 6-speed manual. In the marque’s words, it is “all the charm of old-school driving”. The maximum torque is 460 Nm at 6,250 rpm. In top gear, the 911 R reaches a top speed of 323 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.8 seconds. As for the chassis, the R adopts the rear-wheel steering system. The “Ceramic Composite” braking system is standard, with discs 410 mm in diameter at the front and 305 mm at the rear. The R is fitted with 20-inch wheels with tyres 245 mm wide at the front and 305 mm at the rear. Weighing 1,370 kg, the R is the lightest 911. To lose even more kilos, it has a bonnet and wings made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, a magnesium roof and rear side windows made of polycarbonate. The rear seat has gone, as have the air conditioning and the GPS (these last two items of equipment are available as a no-cost option). Porsche also offers a lithium-ion battery. The R’s look is less radical than that of the GT3 RS. The side gills have gone, as has the enormous fixed spoiler. It is replaced by a deployable element. The rear is 44 mm wider than that of the Carrera, so that the 911 sits even better on its wheels. The grille above the engine is specific, with the retro-style 911 R monogram. Two coloured stripes run the entire length of the car. Surprisingly, the R does not benefit from the redesigned headlights. Proof that looks are not its priority!

* The weight is the maximum measured weight (EC standard).
** The power figures refer to vehicles with a manual gearbox (except Cayenne and Panamera).
*** The value is the one published by Flat6 Magazine or LVA (average of good and very good), which in our opinion is the closest to the market price, with a slight tendency to overvalue older models. For this purpose, the vehicle is assumed to have covered an average of 10,000 km per year. We do not give any value for current models.
