Zuffenhausen’s latest step backwards is the new 718 GTS 4.0. With this car, Porsche raises the white flag and admits to enthusiasts that fitting a four-cylinder turbo in the Boxster and Cayman was not very wise. Its small displacement (2 l and 2.5 l) remains a big asset in the face of ecological taxation in China, where the 718 hoards almost 90 % of the two-seater sports car market. Elsewhere, it has helped hook first-time Porsche buyers and fans of generous, easy torque coming from a Golf GTI or an Audi TT. But Porsche knows full well that purists like us took it badly. So, to make amends, it has placed the 4-litre six-cylinder flat engine from the sensational Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder between the seats and the boot, with 20 hp less to respect the hierarchy. The 4.0 is launched with a six-speed manual gearbox, but a seven-speed PDK will arrive at the end of 2020.

* The weight is the maximum measured weight (EC standard).
** The power figures refer to vehicles with a manual gearbox (except Cayenne and Panamera).
*** The value is the one published by Flat6 Magazine or LVA (average of good and very good), which in our opinion is the closest to the market price, with a slight tendency to overvalue older models. For this purpose, the vehicle is assumed to have covered an average of 10,000 km per year. We do not give any value for current models.
