From the monoculture of two-door cars around the indestructible phoenix that is the 911, Porsche has gone from being a specialist to being a generalist, as four-door models now account for 76 % of sales. With 256,255 vehicles sold last year, the year of its 70th anniversary, Porsche remains an exceptional all-rounder, since the cheque you have to sign to buy a Porsche model usually contains a six-figure sum. However, Porsche is able to expand its range without jeopardising its credibility, and the introduction of hybrid and electric powertrains has, paradoxically, given it additional legitimacy. Both boots have been retained because there are two motors, quite small compared with the petrol V8s, one on each axle. The front one handles low speeds in town, where the Taycan passes unnoticed as a front-wheel-drive car. The rear axle is the sportier one, as it provides additional power when the right foot asks for it. In the first few metres you have to get used to the throttle response, which acts immediately, unlike combustion engines, where you first have to rev up and then release the clutch. Competition experience makes itself felt in this Taycan, which seems inexhaustible. Naturally, its natural sound, electrically amplified and not manufactured, is unique, with a touch of Star Wars. Although it does not sound as intoxicating as a combustion engine, this enhanced sound in the sport modes sets the pace. With its four-wheel steering, which gives it a certain agility that is reflected in excellent steering, and enough oversteer to remind you of the 911s, in the end you have to pinch yourself to believe you are still in a 100 % electric car. From Porsche’s point of view, the result is very convincing; the price, typical of exceptional cars, still has to be digested.

* The weight is the maximum measured weight (EC standard).
** The power figures refer to vehicles with a manual gearbox (except Cayenne and Panamera).
*** The value is the one published by Flat6 Magazine or LVA (average of good and very good), which in our opinion is the closest to the market price, with a slight tendency to overvalue older models. For this purpose, the vehicle is assumed to have covered an average of 10,000 km per year. We do not give any value for current models.
