In January 1985, the 220 hp 944 Turbo went on sale in Europe and the United States. On the outside, the 944 Turbo was clearly different from the other naturally aspirated 944s thanks to a completely new, more aerodynamic front bumper and a lower rear lip that improved the extraction of air under the car and also generated a suction effect. The 944 Turbo series was not developed further until 1988.
