Its face is smoother and the traditional round headlights, the “frog eyes”, are retained, but aerodynamics seems to have polished the 911 just as it had successfully done with the 959. And rightly so: the Cd figure is 0.34, compared with 0.33 for the base 993 Carrera and 0.39 for the old Turbo 3.3. The new headlights also offer 40% better illumination, which is no bad thing. The Litronic option improves this night-time visibility even further. Another important detail is the 993’s new windscreen wipers, arranged in a central position, which clean much more effectively than before. The 6-speed gearbox was introduced for all models in the range. In the cabin there are no surprises as far as the dashboard is concerned, the design of which has barely changed since the 901. The ignition key is still to the left of the steering wheel and the layout of the gauges and controls on the dashboard and centre console now looks very dated in terms of ergonomics and design. And yet everything is in the right place and within easy reach!
On top of that, the 993 saw the introduction of the X51 kit (from 3.6 to 3.8 litres), which produces 13 hp more than the basic version, and an extremely rare K2 kit, which still carries a 3.8, but this time with 299 hp!
* The weight is the maximum measured weight (EC standard).
** The power figures refer to vehicles with a manual gearbox (except Cayenne and Panamera).
*** The value is the one published by Flat6 Magazine or LVA (average of good and very good), which in our opinion is the closest to the market price, with a slight tendency to overvalue older models. For this purpose, the vehicle is assumed to have covered an average of 10,000 km per year. We do not give any value for current models.
