On the technical data sheet, the only difference between the C2 and the C4 is a weight that is 35 kg lower, which results in a modified weight distribution that better matches the “spirit of the 911”. In the cabin of the Carrera 2, the dashboard remains faithful to tradition. The engine is still air-cooled and still has cylinder heads with two valves per cylinder, which makes exhaust gas cleaning considerably more difficult, but guarantees its unmistakable sound. The cylinder head, which was originally fixed directly to the engine block without a head gasket, caused sealing problems, leading to oil leaks on many models up to 1991. The twin ignition, an innovation from motorsport, also brought a series of setbacks owing to a poorly designed ignition distributor and a poorly balanced flywheel, and there you have the ideal recipe for the image of an unreliable and unloved car. Indeed, the 964, once its teething problems were resolved, marks the beginning of a new era. Porsche had just understood that you have to evolve to survive!
* The weight is the maximum measured weight (EC standard).
** The power figures refer to vehicles with a manual gearbox (except Cayenne and Panamera).
*** The value is the one published by Flat6 Magazine or LVA (average of good and very good), which in our opinion is the closest to the market price, with a slight tendency to overvalue older models. For this purpose, the vehicle is assumed to have covered an average of 10,000 km per year. We do not give any value for current models.
