The biggest novelty of the second-generation 993 is the VarioRam, which Porsche does not carry over to the 996 and replaces with modulation of the intake manifold volume to smooth the torque curve (Variocam). With the 97 model year (August 96), the longer-geared 6-speed gearbox (Type G50/20) of the US version was coupled to the engine and fitted from the outset to all Carrera models. Also in 1997, the definitive evolution of the Carrera 2 and the Carrera S was introduced in the form of a more powerful engine (option x51). This is the 3.8-litre engine (Type M64/21S, 300 hp at 6,500 rpm, 36.2 mkg at 5,400 rpm), which was used in the 964 Carrera RS and the 993 Carrera Supercup, as well as in the 95 RS. You can feel the end of a generation...
* The weight is the maximum measured weight (EC standard).
** The power figures refer to vehicles with a manual gearbox (except Cayenne and Panamera).
*** The value is the one published by Flat6 Magazine or LVA (average of good and very good), which in our opinion is the closest to the market price, with a slight tendency to overvalue older models. For this purpose, the vehicle is assumed to have covered an average of 10,000 km per year. We do not give any value for current models.
